HISTORY

Baker’s love of family and baseball helped bring Little League to Covington.  It‘s part of the reason the field was dedicated in honor of his name.  The photos in the 1st photo gallery are from his son Luther Baker.

Conyers Street Gym and Baker Field has been a cornerstone in our community for nearly 100 years, bringing families and friends together as a place for various classes, scouts, little league, baseball, volleyball, and football. 

Overwhelmingly, citizens agreed via a recent petition that Conyers Street Gym and Baker Field should remain in the City’s possession as a community center and restored to be used as originally intended, not turned into an apartment complex with mixed use development, as proposed in 2021.

The Places in Peril application was applied for by local citizens and if chosen, will be announced November 2023 for 2024.  The nomination hinges on support from the community.  Now is the time to show your support by simply offering your email for future communications, prospects of volunteering, fund raisers & rallies. 

Baker Field and Conyers Street Gym is the heart of Covington.  Imagine the fun we will have to gather as a community to play ball and help raise money to see this project through.  This is a place in peril worth saving.  Don’t forget to include your email address for communications on future events you won‘t want to miss.
